When the bill arrived at their table, she didn’t even glance at it. She was too focused on calming her breathing and her racing heart.
He picked up the bill and looked at it.
Then he placed it squarely between them on the table.
“Total three hundred and eighty dollars,” he said nonchalantly, as if discussing the weather. “Let’s split it evenly.”
She blinked, certain she’d misunderstood.
“What did you say?”
“Let’s split it,” he repeated calmly. “I think that’s fair.”
She stared at him, trying to understand what was happening. He’d planned this entire lavish evening. He’d chosen this expensive restaurant. He’d insisted on choosing expensive wines.
He was the one who kept repeating, “Tonight will be special.”
